Biography
The Mozart of Catamarca
Born in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca in 1999, Tapia arrived on the professional circuit as a teenager and learned the top of the game next to veterans: Fernando Belasteguín, with whom he won the 2020 Master Final at 21, then Pablo Lima and Sanyo Gutiérrez. In late 2022 he joined forces with the young Spaniard Arturo Coello, and the pair reached world No. 1 in October 2023.
Coello and Tapia have finished every season since at the top of the ranking. By mid-September 2026 they had won nine titles this year, including the Rome and Paris Majors. Tapia's touch, improvisation and reading of the game from the left side are the reason the nickname stuck.
